Dream Note is an AI-powered dream journal. We collect your account information, dream content, and usage data to provide personalized dream interpretation and analysis. We do not sell your personal data. You can export or delete your data at any time from within the app or by visiting our account deletion page.
Information We Collect
Account Information
When you create an account, we collect:
- Email address
- Display name
- Profile photo (optional, uploaded by you)
- Authentication credentials managed securely by Firebase Authentication
- If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name and email from those providers
Profile & Preferences
- Timezone and language
- Gender (optional — used only to personalize AI interpretation tone)
- Notification preferences and reminder times
- Analytics and personalization preferences
- Onboarding survey answers
Dream Content
The core data Dream Note processes on your behalf:
- Dream text and narrations you enter manually
- Voice recordings you make — these are converted to text on-device using speech recognition and the resulting text is sent to our servers. Raw audio is not transmitted or stored.
- Dream mood, type (normal, lucid, nightmare, recurring, vivid), and AI style selection
- AI-generated interpretations, emotion analyses, symbols, and themes
- AI-generated dream images
- Dream tags, favorites, and personal notes
- Chat conversations with the AI assistant
Usage & Engagement Data
- Dream streak counts and last active date
- Total dreams logged and statistics
- Weekly dream report history
Device & Technical Data
- Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) token for push notifications
- Device platform (iOS or Android)
- App version and basic technical diagnostics
Apple Health (Optional)
If you choose to connect Apple Health, Dream Note reads sleep, heart rate, and mindfulness data only on your device. We never transmit raw health values to our servers. Only opaque event signals (e.g., high_rem_sleep) and a timestamp are sent so we can deliver timely notifications. You can disconnect Apple Health at any time from iOS Settings → Privacy → Health.
Information We Do NOT Collect
- Raw audio recordings (only transcribed text is stored)
- Location data
- Contacts or address book
- Photos from your camera roll
- Browsing history or data from other apps
How We Use Your Information

Your dream text is sent to Google Gemini for interpretation and to fal.ai for image generation. These services process your content to generate results, which are then stored in your account. Please review Google's and fal.ai's privacy policies for their data handling practices. We do not use your dream content to train our own models.
Data Sharing & Third Parties
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share data only with service providers necessary to operate Dream Note:
We may also disclose your information if required by law, to protect our legal rights, or in connection with a merger or acquisition, in which case we will notify you.
Sign in with Google / Apple
If you authenticate using Google or Apple, these providers share your name and email with us. Your use of those services is governed by Google's and Apple's respective privacy policies. We do not access any other information from your Google or Apple account.
Data Storage & Security
Where Your Data Is Stored
- Account and dream data — stored in a PostgreSQL database hosted on Google Cloud infrastructure
- Images (dream scenes, avatar, weekly report images) — stored in Cloudflare R2 object storage
- Authentication — managed by Firebase Authentication (Google)
Security Measures
- All data is transmitted over HTTPS/TLS
- Passwords are never stored — authentication is handled by Firebase
- API endpoints are protected with rate limiting and security headers
- Account deletion requires email verification with a time-limited OTP
- Images are served with long-term cache headers but are tied to your account and removed upon deletion
While we implement industry-standard security practices, no system is 100% secure. We encourage you to use a strong password and keep your account credentials private.

Device Permissions

All permissions are requested only when you first use the relevant feature. You can revoke permissions at any time in your device's Settings app.
In-App Purchases
Dream Note offers a Pro subscription that unlocks unlimited dream interpretations and premium features. Subscription payments are processed entirely by Apple App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android). We do not collect or store your payment card details.
We receive the following subscription information from Apple, Google, and RevenueCat:
- Subscription plan (weekly, monthly, or yearly)
- Purchase and expiry timestamps
- Trial status and auto-renewal flag
- Transaction ID and receipt data (for verification only)
This information is used solely to activate and manage your Pro access. For billing disputes, please contact Apple Support or Google Play Support directly.
Children's Privacy
Dream Note is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or 16 in the EEA). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately at privacy@dreamnote.app and we will delete that information promptly.
Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. Specifically:
- Account data — retained until you delete your account
- Dream content — retained until deleted by you or upon account deletion
- Images — deleted from Cloudflare R2 immediately upon account deletion
- Verification codes (e.g., for account deletion) — expire automatically after 15 minutes
- Subscription records — may be retained for up to 7 years for tax and legal compliance
When you delete your account, all your personal data, dreams, images, and Firebase authentication records are permanently removed. This action is irreversible.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you via a push notification or a prominent in-app notice at least 7 days before the changes take effect. The updated date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent revision.
Your continued use of Dream Note after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
